Next Sunday, July 6, 2008, 9:30 a.m. - SERVICE IN THE PARK   Come to Hardy Park with your lawn chair and lunch for our annual Outdoor Service and Picnic. Service will start at 9:30 with musical worship led by Revival. Pastor Doug's message will be titled "Where To Get Help When You Hurt" , part 2 in the series "The Road To Recovery". In preparation you may wish to read Hebrews 11:1-3, and 6.This is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends to a casual service, and great fellowship afterwards. (In case of rain, of course, we'll have service in our usual venue and our picnic in the gym. But remember, we're starting our summer hours at 9:30 a.m!)

  • PLEASE NOTE:  Sunday July 6th we will kick off our Summer hours with an outdoor service and picnic at the Hardy Park Gazebo at
    9:30 a.m. Please bring your lawn chairs and your favourite picnic lunch.
    Summer services will continue at 9:30 a.m. until after Labour Day.

  • Vacation Bible School is coming back to Wall Street the week of August 11th  to 15th. “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything” -  A Veggie Tales VBS. Mark your calendars and start talking about this to your family and friends. Also if you want to help out you can talk with Pastor Kim. 

  • Canada Day Prayer and Share - at Pastor Doug's:  Please meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. to carpool out to 3708 Maple Ave., RR # 2 Prescott. The discussion will be "What I would do if I was told I had 30 days to live."

  • NEW STUDY: Paul's Letters from a Roman Prison  The study on the letters to Colossae, Philemon, Ephesus and Philippi continues on  Tuesday’s at 9:00 a.m. at Prayer and Share Group. We are now meeting in the Friendship Room for the summer months. This is an "open group" and everyone is welcome anytime.  See you there. (Note the change of location for July 1st at Doug’s home).   • The Meditation hour which normally follows Prayer and Share is also cancelled for July 1st due to our meeting at Doug’s home.

  • The Strawberry Brunch made $747.90 after expenses.  There were donations made in addition to this.  The entire amount will go to help Hope House Babies’ Home (a partner of Our Kenyan Kids) with their current housing crisis. Thank you to our star chefs, Peggy Miller and Carol Charbonneau, and to everyone who helped in any way with this project.

  • Sunday Suppers: Our June Supper was a great success so we are looking for salad and dessert chefs again for July 13th. Please speak with Denise or call 345-6945 and leave a message about what you will be donating. Thanks for your ongoing support of this important ministry.
  • Multimedia Team Volunteers needed, at least 16 years of age, to be part of a team to operate the sanctuary sound system, one week a month, and our new multimedia equipment as needed. Contactthe office via e-mail or phone 342-5401.
  • Sheryl Raycroft is looking for someone to coordinate the delivering of shut in bulletins to the retirement homes. Call her and she can let you know what is involved. 613-342-5106.

  • The Wall St. Green Team (aka as the Ministry of First Impressions) has started work on our church garden.  If anyone would like to join us please contact Cathie in the office or any of the following members:  Kim Fawcett, Rene Forget, Donna Martelle, Gail Price, Robert Palmer or Doug Mather. Many thanks to the children of the Church School for planting the lilies.

  • New, this year at the Fare will be a Toy Booth. - Please set aside good used toys for Yuletide Fare this year. We will collect them a few weeks before the Fare. Wayne Daub has kindly offered to make small repairs where needed. His number is 613-498-0004 or wdaub@sympatico.ca.

  • Race Car Hats are available in Heritage Hall after church this week. Pink hats on order for the ladies. Prices are $15 and $20. Orders accepted as well. Thanks for supporting our Race Car ministry.

  • NEW MAILBOX:  There is now a mail slot in the new office door for those who need to drop things off when the office is closed

  • Leadership Summit 2008, to be held at Cedar View Alliance Church (Nepean). This year the dates are Thursday August 7th and Friday August 8th. (not Saturday). If you have never taken part in the Summit experience you are missing out. Great teaching and sharing of experiences and also great fellowship with other Wall Streeters.

  • 3rd Annual Yuletide Fare    New, this year at the Fare will be a Toy Booth- Please set aside good used toys for Yuletide Fare this year. All toys must be in excellent condition and no stuffed animals will be accepted. Toys will be collected a few weeks before the Fare.
    Embroidered Quilt - The last Sunday to hand in embroidered squares will be June 29th. The results will be stunning!  Contacts are Corinne 613-498-0004 or Ella - 613-345-7660.
    Ideas For Yule Tide Fare  Now is the time to prepare Strawberry Jam or Strawberry Rhubarb Jam for the Yule Tide Fare.  Extra rhubarb can be frozen to use for baking in December. Suggestions: Rhubarb Strudel, Rhubarb Pie, Rhubarb Compote, Pineapple Rhubarb Jam, Rhubarb Coffee Cake, or Rhubarb Muffins.

  • Summer Sundays are fast approaching. Are you willing to fill a role in our Church school over the summer months to give our teachers a well deserved break? We are hoping for a blend of those who have done it before and a few new volunteers. If we get enough helpers then maybe your ministry to the kids would only have to be one Sunday over the summer. If you are willing to help or need more information,  please contact  Doug after service or at 342-5401 X 23.   • The GoldenMuse Theatre Company is proud to present a spectacular Broadway style musical revue entitled BROADWAY DIAMONDS! Four incredibly talented musical theatre students will be arriving from Kingston to perform live for one night only at Wall Street United Church on Friday July 4th in the Fellowship Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the curtain will go up at 7:30 pm to reveal an engaging cast of amazing singers, dancers and actors! The show will consist of over 25 incredibly hilarious and moving songs from such sensational musicals as: Avenue Q; Grease; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change and Guys and Dolls.   • Community & Primary Health Care (CPHC) – formerly VON - provides Community Support Services and Primary Health Care in the local communities. Services are growing and we are in need of volunteers in several areas. The Adult Day service has grown!  We need VOLUNTEERS Monday - Friday for 1-3 hours in the morning, afternoon or over the lunch hour.  We also need VOLUNTEERS in the office and we need VOLUNTEER drivers.   • The Change Challenge:  An opportunity to empty that jar of loose change that has been collecting on your dresser, desk or counter.  Let’s fill the water bottle in Heritage Hall with coins for the benefit of Our Kenyan Kids. PRAISE REPORT!! The Good Stuff for a Great Cause Garage Sale raised $3,208.00 (with a few $$'s still to dribble in) to be sent to finish the Usueni Secondary Girls School Dining Room and Kitchen. (Doug reports that this is only about $200 short of the total cost for the Kitchen project!) Multi kudos to Linda James and her dedicated crew for the many hours involved in putting together this remarkable sale. Thanks also to all of you who donated items for the sale. The goal, of course, was to raise money, but reports are that the camaraderie and fellowship were outstanding as well. Pictures of the event have been sent to Kenya to show them a little Canadian "culture". (Never heard of a Garage Sale in Africa) So again, thank you to all!! Your energies and efforts will make for positive opportunities for the girl child of Kenya to pursue an education in decent facilities. Thanks!
  • Shoeboxes for Seniors – 2008 Campaign. Please consider filling a shoebox with essential toiletry items (tooth brush, toothpaste, soap, body or hand cream, powder, shampoo, razors, brushes, etc.) Shoeboxes will be shipped to destitute seniors in Chernobyl. Area drop off locations are: Canadian Red Cross, 80 Charles Street;  MPP Bob Runciman’s Office, 100 Strowger Blvd. Suite 101 and CPHC office, Athens.

  • Loaves and Fishes Community Restaurant Volunteers are needed as spares for the Wall Street team who volunteer at Loaves and Fishes the third Monday of every month. This is a great ministry where service and acceptance unite……..where dignity and respect grow. If you can help or for more info contact Peggy Miller at 341-9241.
  • Sherwood Park Manor Auxiliary is in need of more volunteers to help out with various programs. Anyone interested in giving a little of your time once or twice a month is asked to call Susan at 498-2504.
  • Canadian Aid for Chernobyl is preparing for the next shipment to Belarus. There are several ways in which you may help orphans, invalid children and families

    $20 will provide toothpaste, toothbrushes and hygiene products

    $50 will provide 70 lbs of food staples

    $100 will provide up to $5,000 of urgently needed medicines and hygiene products for orphanages, hospitals and seniors' residences

    $500 will support a family with an invalid child or will support the orphaned and abandoned children initiatives which provide food, medicine and a safer environment than living on the streets. Please send donations to: Canadian Aid for Chernobyl, P.O. Box 244 Brockville ON, K6V 5V5, drop it off at Alan Brown's or give it to Neil Matheson. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

 
 
  • If you have business at Wall Street during the week we would appreciate it if you would pick up a NEW BRIGHT YELLOW parking pass coupon to place on your dash when you are here. Downtown parking is unfortunately always an issue and we thank you for your help in identifying your car as one of our own. Pick one up on the back tables of the Sanctuary or in the church office.

  • Put it on your calendars that the 3rd Annual Yuletide Fare will be held on December 5th and 6th in 2008. Start thinking of how you can help now.

  • An Alternative Worship Area is now provided for those who are unable to sit for long periods, for those with young infants who might get fussy, or for those who for any reason would prefer to take part in the service by watching the service from the TV screen in Heritage Hall. (Room at the back of the Sanctuary)
  • Computer Literate Volunteers are needed to supply back-up for our Church Administrator. We specifically need someone who could produce church bulletins and various other literature; and also be able to access and do e-mail messaging. If you are interested in helping please see Wray Axworthy or call him at 342-0945.
  • For those seeking or interested: the latest edition of the United Church Manual it is available on-line at http://www.united-church.ca/manual/pdf/ucc_manual_2004.pdf If you need further help accessing it, Doug Mather would be willing to help you find it. A print copy is available from the church office.
  • DEVOTIONAL BOOKLETS are available in the book racks at the entrance to the Sanctuary. Suggested donations are: Upper Room - $1.00 each, The Word For You Today - $4.00 each. Thank you for your support.
  • Wall Street United Church has adopted a Human Rights Policy applicable to all members of the church, staff and adherents participating in church activities. This policy outlines responsibilities, definitions of harassment and internal procedures to be followed if a violation occurs. If you wish to see a copy of this policy, it is available in the church office. (Copies will be given to all Committee Chairs.)
  • If you or a member of our congregation is in the hospital or will be entering the hospital and would like a visit from the minister, please call the church office, 342-5401. A Friendly Suggestion For Us All: In emergencies it is always helpful to have contact phone numbers and a list of medications needed taped to the back of your Health Cards!
  • CHURCH LIBRARY The library is located in the southwest corner of Heritage Hall. Books are available to be taken out on the honour system. We have children's books, a new section of teen books, and of course books for adults. This includes devotional material, Bibles, Christian fiction and many others.
  • UCW have a program to save postage stamps. Requirements are that there must be a border of 1/4 inches and the perforated edge of the stamp must be intact. A collection box is in the downstairs kitchen.
  • CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS: A reminder to our congregation that Campbell’s Soup Labels are collected and sent to Belleville where they are turned into resources to support the School of the Deaf there. Please save the front picture and UPC sections of the labels. Boxes for these labels and also Postage Stamps, Greeting Cards, and Eye Glasses are all in the downstairs Kitchen. Thank You for supporting these causes.
  • DOUG WARREN'S NEW RELEASE The Love of God is now available from the office or after the service. CDs are $15. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support the Mission Exposure Team to Kenya and OK Kids.
  • Choir News Contact Catherine for information about Junior, Senior and Gospel (Hallelujah Chorus) Choirs. Senior Choir practice is in the Sanctuary on Thursday, at 7 p.m, Hallelujah Chorus and Revival (Praise Team) Wednesday, 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM respectively.
  • Parking - The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville have adopted a new management plan for the parking lot at 32 Wall St. (the Victoria School lot). Members of the congregation of WSUC may use the lot on Sundays only. During the course of the year, access to this parking lot may also be arranged for special occasions (with adequate prior arrangements) such as Craft Showcase etc. To accommodate requests, please notify the church office in advance.
    Please note that anyone attending a function during the week must have a parking permit clearly showing on their vehicle or a ticket will be issued. Parking permits are available for pick up from the church office.
    The Irvine Funeral Home welcomes us to use their lot (at James and Victoria, a short block and a half from the church) until 1 p.m. every Sunday!!
  • Prayer & Share Box A yellow box will be located in Heritage Hall on the communion table for your convenience. We encourage you to request prayers for any one in need and also to share good news (ex. special birthdays/anniversaries/accomplishments). These requests will be forwarded to the ministers and/or the Prayer and Share Group weekly. Prayer & Share - With Rev. Doug Warren, Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. in the Upper Room. Welcome!!   • Eye Glasses - There is a box in the lower kitchen to collect used eye glasses. A team is formed across Canada annually to go into the Third World countries anywhere in the world to provide corrective glasses to those who cannot afford them. Local opticians and optometrists have been part of these teams over the years.
  • Aluminum pop cans and pie plates. Don't throw them out, please bring them to the church and put them in our bins at each entrance, or call us to have them picked up. We also recycle beer cans and beer bottles from your friends. Thanks for your continued support of this fund-raiser. Update - Aluminium Cans Project: Our recycle group has recycled 236 lbs. of aluminium cans and foil pans this week. We appreciate all who are collecting pop and beer cans for this project. Thank You: Ed, Harriet, Alan, Tom, Gord, and Harold.
  • WEEKLY PRAYER The Sanctuary is open for prayer Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 12 noon and at other convenient times. A special invitation is extended to anyone wishing to pray during the week. Devotional materials are available at the front of the Sanctuary. The schedule is subject to change for special occasions
  • Do you believe God answers prayer? Then why not join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m.? We feel God is calling us to pray for the things we need - like new growth in our congregation. CHANGE OF VENUE The 9:00 AM Sunday morning prayer group is now meeting in the Friendship Room . We accept prayer requests and there is no need to lead in prayer - just be there. We need your support. Come believing Jesus' promise, "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matt. 21:22)
  • What is PAR? - PAR stands for Pre-Authorized Remittance
    PAR is a program for the local church administered by the Department of Stewardship Services of The United Church of Canada. PAR allows you to contribute to your local church through a monthly withdrawal from your bank. You can designate your gift to Local Church Expenses, Mission and Service Fund, and Building Reserve Fund, just as you would on an offering envelope. Your account will be debited on or about the 20th of the month and your congregation's account credited with the amount payable from all members who participate. Application forms are available from the church office or from church bulletin boards. Dick Acheson is our church PAR Steward. He can be reached at 342-0425 or by email and will be glad to answer any questions, sign-up new members or make changes to your PAR givings.
